Connect with the Ethereum ecosystem

Exploring Ethereum doesn't require a formal proposal or a decision to use it. Learn what support is available and how your institution can join the conversation.

Opening paths together

The Ethereum Foundation (EF) is a nonprofit working to strengthen Ethereum's resilience. We are part of a larger community of individuals and organizations that support protocol development, grow the ecosystem, and advocate for Ethereum.

Ethereum for Public Infrastructure and Commons (EPIC) is a team in the EF working with governments, multilateral organizations, NGOs, and civil society. We help institutions understand Ethereum's capabilities, discuss potential applications, and connect with relevant expertise across the EF and wider Ethereum ecosystem.

How we can support

Understand

  • Briefings and educational resources for decision-makers on Ethereum’s capabilities
  • Convening workshops to design sovereign infrastructure

Explore

  • High-level feedback on proposed technical approaches and architecture
  • Designing community programs related to Ethereum and public infrastructure
  • Helping institutions define needs and coordinate technical exploration of non-financial use cases
  • Developing and promoting standards that include decentralizing technology

Connect

  • Making introductions to aligned development teams
  • Supporting principles-aligned organizations and individuals in expanding the understanding and reach of Ethereum

What we don't offer

Control

  • Influencing protocol development
  • Supporting systems that undermine individual choice or control

Promote

  • Accreditation or certification of projects
  • Endorsement of a project, architecture, vendor, or deployment decision
  • Making grants solely to use or migrate to Ethereum

Act as a vendor

  • Developing turnkey product solutions
  • Open-ended technical support

Principles in practice

Our aim is to build institutional understanding and capability without creating dependence on the EF. These principles shape the approaches we support and how we work with institutions.

Institutional independence

Institutions should have alternatives to relying on a single vendor or centralized system for crucial functions. We support open-source infrastructure that can be understood, inspected, adapted, and maintained beyond any one provider. This helps preserve institutional independence and the freedom to choose who operates and maintains their systems.

Individual autonomy

People should retain meaningful control over their identities, assets, agents, and actions. We support systems that respect meaningful consent and expand individual choice, without creating unnecessary barriers to participation. Infrastructure should safeguard people and their data, while remaining private and resilient in the face of technical threats or social and political pressure.

Practicality and affordability

Preserving independence should not come at the expense of usability, performance, or affordability. We look for approaches that address real public needs and make practical and economic sense for the institutions and people using them.

Start a conversation

EPIC welcomes questions, early ideas, and experience from institutions interested in what Ethereum can make possible for the communities they serve. You can start a conversation at any stage, even if your ideas are still taking shape.

  1. Share what you’re exploring

Send EPIC a short note about your institution’s work and what you would like to explore. Include any goals, questions, or practical constraints that could help guide the conversation.

  2. Understand the context

An initial exchange can help us understand your work and discuss where Ethereum may or may not be useful. Depending on the topic, this could be by email or through a call.

  3. Consider the next step

From there, we can consider possible next steps together. This might mean sharing resources for further learning, offering feedback on an early idea, or introducing you to a relevant team. It may also mean considering a different approach rather than using Ethereum.
